PIPETMAN® M96: Everything You Need to Know About the 96-Channel Electronic Pipette

PIPETMAN M96 is a compact, high-performance 96-channel electronic pipette designed to simplify and accelerate plate-based laboratory workflows. Combining automation-level efficiency with the flexibility of a benchtop instrument, it enables simultaneous pipetting across 96 wells while remaining compatible with standard PIPETMAN® DIAMOND tips and SLAS labware. Ideal for applications such as PCR setup, ELISA, serial dilutions, and plate replication, PIPETMAN M96 helps laboratories increase throughput, improve consistency, and reduce hands-on time, without the complexity or cost of fully automated systems.

Yes. PIPETMAN M96 is fully compatible with standard SLAS-format microplates, ensuring seamless integration into existing lab workflows.

It works with:

  • 96-well microplates
  • 384-well microplates
  • Standard SLAS labware
  • 0.2 mL tubes (with optional rack: 96x0.2 mL, for PCR tubes, strips & PCR plates diam. 7.8mm)

No proprietary plates are required, allowing full flexibility and easier procurement.

Yes. PIPETMAN M96 enables pipetting in 384-well microplates in just four movements using its 96-channel head.

With the Reversible Tray (96/384):

The plate is manually slid from one corner of the tray to the next:

  1. Align tips with the first quadrant → Pipette
  2. Slide to the second quadrant → Pipette
  3. Slide to the third quadrant → Pipette
  4. Slide to the fourth quadrant → Pipette

In four simple steps, the entire 384-well plate is filled.

With the Multi-Tray:

The multi-tray offers guided movement using:

  • A back-and-forth lever
  • A lateral sliding lever (free slide or notched positions)
  • A 384-position setting

Each shift positions the next series of wells under the tips, allowing full 384-well coverage with precision and control.

Result: Efficient 384-well pipetting without the need for a dedicated 384-channel instrument.

Three rotating tray models are available to adapt to different workflows.

All trays:

  • Are reversible, can fit both 96 and 386 wells plate
  • Can be installed on the left or right side
  • Remain stable during pipetting thanks to a magnetic fixing system
  • Can be stacked to save space

Single Reversible Trays (96- / 384-Well)

The single tray and rotating tray adapted to 384-well microplates enable you to slide the microplate manually from one corner to another and fill a 384-well plate with 96 tips.

  • Rotating reversible tray 96-well left side – 384-well right side
  • Rotating reversible tray 384-384 well sides

Ideal for laboratories transitioning between plate formats.

Multi-Tray for 96- and 384-Well Microplates

The multi-tray is equipped with two shifting levers: one to move back and forth the 384-well microplate, and one to set the preferred option to move the tray sideways - free sliding or with notches. It is designed for:

  • Serial dilutions
  • Plate-to-plate transfers
  • Sliding between plates during workflows

No, PIPETMAN M96 uses standard PIPETMAN® DIAMOND Tips.

This means:

  • No hidden long-term consumable costs
  • No dependency on specialty tips

Using standard, widely available tips help laboratories control operating costs over time.

PIPETMAN M96 is designed for intuitive operation. It features:

  • A fully integrated touchscreen interface
  • Assisted, step-by-step workflow guidance
  • Clear visibility of upcoming protocol steps

During protocol execution, the next steps are displayed in real time, helping reduce surprises and minimize user error. Users can also program, store, and run customized workflows with confidence.

PIPETMAN M96 includes an Admin control function that supports compliance with most Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Protocols and parameters can be locked
  • Access can be controlled via PIN code
  • Custom workflows can be protected

PIPETMAN M96 is compact and space efficient.

Dimensions (W × L × H): 340 × 210 × 450 mm Weight: Approx. 10.2 kg (without accessories)

  • Fits easily on standard benches
  • Can be used under fume hoods and laminar flow hoods
  • Allows microplates to be stacked underneath the pipetting head to save space

Yes. PIPETMAN M96 is fully transportable.

  1. Align and lock the pipetting head using the locking bar.
  2. Carry using the transport handle while supporting the base.
